Is it better to get the 18 inch or 22 inch? I have a 50# recurve if that makes a difference.
Answer: I’m new to archery and have the 22″ and it works great with my 40lb recurve and my 50lb compound bow. 22″ is about the max I could find so I think its a great starter target.

could i have gotten a defected one of these targets arrows blow right through this thing at any distance i read reviews they were saying it great not
Answer: No, I have had the manufacture send me two additional ones. At least if I place one behind the other the arrows don’t go all the way through. I had to buy another target these just plain don’t work.

Is this good for youth starting out?
Answer: It’s light and easy to carry, and it stops crossbow bolts just fine. It’s kind of small so if your youth is just starting out you’re going to want a good backstop or an endless supply of arrows.
