I worked at McMurdo Station, Antarctica for five months. They had three types of removable ice cleats available to anyone working there. Of the three, STABILicers were my favorite. The other two might have been better grip in thicker snow, but these were the only ones that stopped me from slipping. One of the other products resembled thumbtacks (spikes) sticking out of the bottoms of the sole and these didn’t work as well for solid ice. The screw-head design of STABILicer grip great and I trust these enough that I bought a pair for my father to keep him on his feet in the winter. I recommend these to anyone who’s afraid of slipping on ice in a parking lot right after a heavy snow. These will keep you on your feet. I’m pretty sure I could even run on ice, if I wanted, but don’d do that. That’s just reckless.

This is my second set of stabilicers, first the Maxx and now Maxx2. They did not make the cleats cross compatible forcing you to re-buy the now very expensive new replacement cleats (likely their plan). Shop around to find best price. The cleats can no longer be tightened by a simple screwdriver type tool and needs a socket wrench. Inconvenient out on the trail. These new cleats seem more prone to loss/falling out than the original. The cleats arrive quite loose and so tighten them before using them or will lose a number. They do not size them properly and so if you are not the largest size in your category there will be some play and overhang (esp. at the toe) which can catch on things and trip you up.
Customer Questions & Answers
Just curious, my husband really likes these and wants to order them, does the shipping really take 1-2 months? Our winter will be over.
Answer: I think I received them in about 3-4 weeks, but I’m not certain. At least he will have them for next winter!
What are the thread sizes on those screws?
Answer: Maybe a quarter inch. But just guessing.
I have a size 10 woody max plus boot. should i buy a size large?
Answer:
I have a size 12 Kamik Boot & the Extra Large (XL) STABILicers appear to fit perfectly. I say ??appear?? because I have not had an opportunity to actually use them so I??m not sure as to how they will perform. Hopefully the front & rear straps they will hold the STABILicers firmly in place on each boot while I??m using m??
