If you’re like me, you’re looking at Uncle Flint’s fishing kit, then the price, then your shopping cart, then your wishlist…then the price again.
It’s true. Uncle Flint’s Fishing kit is a pricier (perhaps priciest?) survival fishing kit. However, much like they say on their seller page, do not confuse this with lower quality products available. This might cost you a few bucks more than you’re comfortable with, but trust me when I say this: You get a lot of bang for that buck.
You get every piece of fishing equipment you could possibly want in this kit. Perhaps even a few more. Some of the things I love about this kit is that you get stronger lb test line than in other kits. You get 20 and 40 lb test monofilament fishing line, fifty feet of each. Most other kits you get 10-12ish lb test line.
You also get a LOT of hooks, with plenty of variety between them. Some are catfish hooks. You get a couple treble hooks. You get a variety of lures, artificial bait, and the list goes on and on. Honestly, this is less of a bug out bag / survival fishing kit (though it fits that role incredibly adequately) and more of a legitimate, small tackle box. Small enough to fit any survival role, but large enough, with enough variety to take on any kind of fishing you’d ever want to set out to do within reason. That is to say you will never feel, and never be under-gunned nor ill equipped with this fishing kit.
Bottom line, it’s a complete package. It is more full and complete than any survival fishing kit out there. You pay for it, but this is a case where you definitely get what you’re paying for.
The only thing that I would perhaps change is simply organizational. There are a few hooks that don’t have their own little plastic bag, and a few pieces of gear (like line leaders) that kind of free float within the tin. It packs tight, so it’s not jostling around, but sometimes it makes things easy to spill or misplace. For example, I had a treble hook stuck in my aluminum foil. It’s not a big deal, and almost impossible to really change since you have so much in such a compact compartment.
And while you get a very small, but very adequate printout on general line and knot tying, I wish I knew what some of this gear was specifically for and instructions for their use. That is on me, however, and you, to do your research (if you don’t already know) on your gear before you are left in a situation where it’s too late. And, again, it’s a testament to just how much you get for your money. This isn’t just some line and some hooks. It’s legit fishing gear. I know if you purchase it, you’ll be as ecstatic as I was.
Also, I got a little extra gift with my purchase, too. And while it was small and most definitely did not affect my review (and since it was a gesture of good will and might not be uniform between buyers), I won’t name what it was. But I will say it was something that has been on my to-buy list for some time. So thank you, Uncle Flint. I really appreciate a quality product and a quality company to support.

I received my kit yesterday and looked at the entire content. It’s missing the one thing you need for survival fishing, single HOOKS! Do you see the single hooks in the ad picture, neither do I! You get all the fancy hooks. Need better quality control of your product. Disappointed and glad I reviewed the kit contents. If I had needed this for survival, I’d be in trouble.
Customer Questions & Answers
Quick question from someone who hasn’t fished before, is this kit all that is needed for handline fishing? Thank you!
Answer: This kit is intended for survival situations but could certainly be used for handline fishing. All of the items you would need can be found in the kit! Hope that helps! – Uncle Flint??s Outdoor & Survival Gear
Is there room to add any other items?
Answer: Hi! There really isn’t any room for anything else in this kit. It’s meant to be there for you when you need it. Let us know if you have any other questions!
Why are there safety pins in this kit? i have fished many many times and never needed safety pins
Answer: We received multiple requests from customers to include.
Why include so many lures when there is no reel to make them active? if you have a rod/reel in your edc bag then you have room for a folding boat too
Answer: I’m not an expert, but it seems to me that you fashion a rod with a sapling or just throw it by hand and pull it back to you to get the action you need. I was pretty happy with the selection that they fit into that tin.
